CAPITAL WINES THE WHIP RIESLING 2018

3 Stars, Bronze Medal, Winestate Magazine, May/June 2020

Rating 91/100, Silver Medal, Ned Goodwin The James Halliday Wine Companion August 2019,Lime splice, kerosene, talc and bath salts are whisked along to a slightly phenolic finish by telltale acidity, crisp and bright.

CAPITAL WINES THE FRONT BENCHER SHIRAZ

5 Stars, Gold Medal, Winestate Magazine, May/June 2020 Equal Top in Category/Eligible for Wine of the Year

Silver Medal, 2019 Canberra and Region Wine Show

Rating 91/100, Silver, Ned Goodwin The James Halliday Wine Companion August 2019, This has been allowed to soar into the stratosphere, with some heady alcohol plied by a faint peppery trail of acidity, a whiff of clove and deli meats. Boysenberry and other blue fruit references, too.

CAPITAL WINES THE BACKBENCHER MERLOT 2017

3 Stars, Bronze Medal, Winestate Magazine, May/June 2020

Rating 91/100, Silver, Ned Goodwin The James Halliday Wine Companion August 2019,A dry medium bodied wine of poise, well applied oak and finely wrought tannins, just firm enough to guide the plummy flavours to a satisfying dry finish, doused with herb and spice. While merlot, this is akin to a luncheon claret. Nourishing drinking already.

CAPITAL WINES THE FOREIGN MINISTER SANGIOVESE 2016

3 Stars, Bronze Medal, Winestate Magazine, May/June 2020

Rating 87/100, Bronze Medal, Campbell Mattison The James Halliday Wine Companion August 2019 Mid-weight at most and reductive in nature, but cherry – berried fruit and nut-like characters give it an easy going (in a savoury context) appeal. Finish isn’t quite so convincing.

CAPITAL WINES THE AMBASSADOR TEMPRANILLO 2016

Rating 91/100, Silver Ribbon, Top Rank, Nick Butler The Real Review March 2020, Indigo colour in the glass. It’s a complex bouquet showing secondary, spicy fruit notes melding with charcuterie and mixed Asian spices. Plum sauce and sour cherries, time in the glass liberates more bright fruit. Lovely mature characters worth celebrating.

CAPITAL WINES THE SPEAKER SPARKLING CHARDONNAY PINOT NOIR 2012

Rating 95/100, Gold Ribbon, Top Rank, Huon Hooke The Real Review March 2020, Light to mid-yellow colour, bright, with lots of fine bubbles leaving a creamy head. The bouquet is wonderfully toasty, aged and mellow and obviously a lot older than it looks. The palate also is rich and rounded, very complex thanks to time on lees, but also refined and refreshing. Tastes like an aged blanc de blancs – or chardonnay-driven blend – of great character and style. (84% chardonnay; 16% pinot noir)

CAPITAL WINES THE SENATOR CHARDONNAY 2018

Rating 91/100, Silver Medal, Ned Goodwin The James Halliday Wine Companion August 2019, A modern day chardonnay that melds a leesy core of oatmeal and cashew with bright melon, quince and stone fruit flavours. An easy luncheon throwback.
